Mediterranean-style fried mackerel

Western | Hard | 50 min. | serves 4


  • 1 mackerel steak
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 tomatoes
  • Finely chopped parsley leaves
  • 30 ml extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice


  • Season the mackerel with salt for at least 1 hour before cooking and preferably overnight for a richer flavor.
  • Heat some oil in a saucepan and fry the mackerel. Fry one side until cooked for around 4 minutes then flip to the other side.
  • Dice the tomatoes and onions, add the herbs, and mix them with olive oil, squeeze in the lemon juice, mix well.
  • Ladle all the mixed vegetables onto the fried mackerel and serve hot.
